Latrobe Local News: Council to present free e-marketing session for local businessesLatrobe City Council is presenting a free information session on e-marketing By Latrobe City Council - 28th March 2001 - Back to News Tell us your opinion See what others have said Latrobe City Council is presenting a free information session on e-marketing at 6pm on Tuesday 3 April at Latrobe House in Morwell.
Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Brendan Jenkins said that Council’s Economic Development Unit and e-commerce expert Alastair Dowling were teaming up to help local businesses market their products and services over the Internet.
“The Internet is re-defining how small and medium size enterprises do business. There are low cost opportunities to reach new markets world-wide which is particularly relevant to rural and regional businesses,” Cr Jenkins said.
“Now more than ever before, businesses need to look for ways to reduce costs and increase sales and promotion. The Internet can help businesses achieve this,” Cr Jenkins added.
Latrobe City Council Economic Development Officer, Leo Billington, said Latrobe was delighted to have Alastair Dowling, director of I-Way Consulting, an Australian e-commerce and training company, speak at the planned information evening.
“Mr Dowling has a business and technical background so he can explain e-marketing from both sides of the fence. Mr Dowling consults with the RMIT’s Business Training and Consultancy Service in e-commerce and has extensive experience working with small and medium enterprises throughout Australia,” Mr Billington said.
"e-marketing is a positive way for rural based businesses to make themselves known to the rest of the country. That is why Council is committed to ensuring that Latrobe’s local businesses have access to the most up-to-date information in this area,” Mr Billington said.
“The information evening has been specifically arranged to fit in with business hours and provides an ideal opportunity to learn how improvements to business practice can be made,” Mr Billington said.
“As a follow-on to the information evening, a two-day workshop on e-marketing on the Internet will be conducted in May. This practical workshop will provide businesses with the know-how to make the Internet work for their business.
“Each participant will leave with his or her own Internet marketing action plan, and following the workshops, half-day consultations will be held to review the plans,” Mr Billington added.
The workshops are being presented by Latrobe City Council with support from the Victorian Government Department of State and Regional Development. Subsidies are available for qualifying businesses.
For further information regarding the information evening, please contact Leo Billington at Latrobe City’s Economic Development Unit, telephone 5173 1437.
