Wellington Shire Council has just scored a major funding boost for the new Rosedale Multipurpose Community Centre, with the Victorian Government’s announcement of an additional $300,000 funding for the much-needed facility.

State MP for Morwell District, Brendan Jenkins, announced the Community Support Grant funding on behalf of the Hon John Thwaites MP, Minister for Victorian Communities, during a public event to officially unveil plans for the new $2.4 million community centre yesterday (14 December).

The news follows comprehensive lobbying by the council on the community’s behalf to obtain substantial funding for the project from the various spheres of government. It takes total Victorian Government funding for the project to $750,000, which also includes $250,000 through the Department of Human Services Children’s Services and $200,000 from the Small Towns Program. The Federal Government has also provided $750,000 through its Regional Solutions and Regional Partnerships Programs, while the council has contributed $765,000 and the local community has raised some $20,000.

The Rosedale Multipurpose Community Centre will boast provision for occasional care and pre-school, a library, neighbourhood house and community health services, as well as facilities for local senior citizens and other community groups, placing many of the town’s essential services under one roof for convenient access to community support.

Construction work is due to start during this financial year.

Said Mayor Gault: "The council is delighted with this latest financial injection into the multipurpose centre’s construction and the commitment that is being shown by both the Victorian and Federal Governments to this eagerly-awaited facility.

"The centre will be a huge asset to the people of Rosedale and the surrounding area and instrumental in driving this forward has been the hard work and commitment of the Rosedale community itself, the council and the active support of local members."
