Regional Manager for Parks Victoria, Mr Chris Rose, said Parks Victoria made the decision to support Gippsland Tourism, because it recognised the importance of tourism to the region and the future of its parks.

Gippsland Tourism is overseen by a steering committee with membership from the Gippsland Local Government Network and Tourism Victoria.

"While Gippsland Tourism is a new initiative, there is a growing sense of momentum within the sector," Mr Rose continued.

"By supporting this process, Parks Victoria is making a clear statement about its commitment to work more closely with tourism in the region."

Parks Victoria will make a cash and in kind contribution of $10,000 per annum towards Gippsland Tourism effective immediately.

CEO of Bass Coast Shire, Mr Allan Bawden, said he was delighted to have Parks Victoria taking a more active role in the tourism sector.

"Parks Victoria’s financial commitment is important, but ultimately it is the opportunity to build a more constructive relationship with a key public land manager that will pay dividends for the region," he said.
