This year’s festival celebrates our Hamlets, with lots happening in the small communities surrounding Stratford, including Meerlieu, Airly, Munro, Newry and Briagolong. It also coincides with the historic return of passenger train services to the town, on Sunday 2 May, after a break of more than ten years.

Locals and visitors are invited to join in festivities, with highlights including:

  • Avon Village Fair Day - at the Stratford Village Green on Sunday 2 May, 9.30am to 3.00pm, to coincide with the return of passenger rail services and offering attractions such as dancing, ferret races and entertainment for the children;

  • Hamlet the Children’s Version - a modified performance of Hamlet running from 4-6 May at the Stratford Memorial Hall;

  • Shakespeare in Love - a romantic comedy performed by Eye2Eye Theatre at the Court Theatre Stratford on 30 April and 1, 2, 7 & 8 May;

  • Chill with Will – local secondary school students perform creative work inspired by the Bard at Stratford Memorial Hall on 30 April.

Also, as part of the festivities the Esso BHP Billiton Wellington Entertainment Centre will be hosting Expressions Dance Theatre’s production of Virtually Richard 3rd on Wednesday 5 May. This Brisbane based company has established a worldwide reputation for original, high calibre and exhilarating dance.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Jeff Amos: "This unique festival is a wonderful cultural and tourism attraction for Wellington and offers lots of varied and highly entertaining events for the whole family to enjoy. It’s long running success is a tribute to the hard work, dedication and creativity of Stratford and the surrounding communities, and the return of the trains adds extra significance to this year’s celebrations."
