On Sunday, South Gippsland Shire Councillors Jenni Keerie and John Schelling participated in the Fight MND Big Freeze. Raising funds for motor neurone disease (MND) the two were dunked into sub-zero degree water for a more than worthy cause. Held at the Korumburra Middle Pub, it was great to see the community rally together and show such widespread support.

Food and Fibre Gippsland

Congratulations to the Food and Fibre Gippsland Award winners. We would also like to specially mention Fleming Berries and Dividing Creek Farm Honey for being finalists in the awards - a massive achievement for two of South Gippsland's amazing businesses.

A new solar-lit public toilet will be installed at Bena bus terminal, featuring rainwater handwashing and efficient waste disposal by summer

New Bena public toilet

A new Public Toilet soon will be installed in Bena at the bus terminal on Bass Valley Road. Key features of the facility include:

  • Prime location that suits residents, McGrath Park users, commuters, cyclists and pedestrians (particularly those who use the Great Southern Rail Trail)
  • Solar-powered lighting system to ensure safety
  • Rainwater tank for hand washing
  • Pump-out collection well system to prioritise efficient waste disposal and maintain hygiene standards
  • Pre-fabrication of the facility will be done remotely to ensure minimal disruption to the site

At this stage, it is expected that the new Public Toilet will be installed ready for the busy summer season.

South Gippsland was recently featured in The Australian newspaper as the 'next big thing'! Writer, Jeremy Bourke, showcased our region in a time travelling article, transcending the reader back and forth from our rich heritage to the present day.

He draws contrast to the car ride from metropolitan Melbourne to the country with old melodic symphonies and opera. taking note of the tempo as the reader winds through the rolling hills and highlighting some of the region's gourmet hotspots. Local government elections

A new election page has been added to Council's website to assist the community to prepare for this process. The page contains details about becoming a candidate, how to enrol, how voting works and so much more.

If you are thinking of becoming a candidate, the Municipal Association of Victoria is delivering free information sessions. Learn about the role and responsibilities of Councillors, the election process and candidate requirements. Here are the details:

The 2024 Volunteering Awards are now open for nominations. The Volunteering Awards are an opportunity to recognise and thank Victorian Volunteers for the incredible contributions they make to our local communities.

Marinus Link's Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Effects Statement (EIS/EES) and draft Planning Scheme Amendment (PSA) will be on public exhibition from 31 May - 12 July 2024. They will be hosting drop-in sessions through Gippsland to answer questions and provide information on the documents. The first sessions will be held at:

  • Sandy Point landholder drop-in: Wednesday 12 June (10.00am - 12.00pm)

VicGrid is developing a Community Benefit Plan and your feedback is needed to ensure it hits the mark for local people and communities. Victoria is currently undergoing a transition to renewable energy, replacing fossil fuels, such as coal and gas, with renewable energy resources such as solar and wind, to generate affordable and sustainable energy for the future.

Council impounded the following vehicle in accordance with Schedule 11 of the Local Government Act 1989. A champagne Mercedes sedan from Ridgeway, Mirboo North on Wednesday 24 April 2024. The 2024 Australia Post Community Grants Program is offering grants for eligible community-led, local projects that help improve connection, mental health and wellbeing.

Being connected and feeling part of a community is vital to maintaining good mental health and wellbeing. So, Australia Post aims to support organisations that are helping to make this happen.

Woolworth Pick Fresh Play Fresh Netball Grants

Woolworths Pick Fresh Play Fresh Grants, support grassroots netball clubs and associations across Australia. Over the past six years, the funding stream has provided support to over 311 netball clubs across the country.

The 2024 TAC Club Rewards Program offers football and netball clubs a chance to earn up to $10,000 for promoting road safety

AFL Road Safety Grants Program

The Transport Accident Commission (TAC) Club Rewards Program is back for 2024, giving football and netball clubs the opportunity to earn a share of $600,000 in funding by participating in the mission to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on our roads.

As part of the program, all AFL Victoria-aligned clubs across regional Victoria and in the metropolitan leagues can take part and earn up to $10,000 in funding by promoting road safety in their community.
