Stock Crossing Permit Fees Reviewed

The East Gippsland Shire Council will no longer charge farmers and graziers fees for stock to cross roads at the second and any subsequent location within a three-year period.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 30th March 2005 - Back to News

This follows a decision made by Councillors and a review that was prompted by farmers and graziers who had expressed concern at the high level of fees involved in livestock activities.

Currently it costs $70.00 for each permit that is required for stock to be able to cross a road. This amount is payable to obtain one permit that will enable multiple stock movements across a roadway at one location for a period of three years.

Where the same farmer or grazier needs to move stock across a road at two or more locations, the second and subsequent permit will now be granted free of charge and will also entitle multiple movements over a three year period.

Council’s Manager Community Laws and Emergency Management Heather Jones said the decision would streamline the permit system.

"It is still necessary to have a permit but we have tried to provide a service to help the farmer as much as possible," she said.
