The Gippsland Regional Waste Management Group and Wellington Shire Council are supporting ‘Zero Waste Week 2005’ from 23-29 October.

By Wellington Shire Council - 24th October 2005 - Back to News

Wellington’s Chief Executive Officer Lyndon Webb says Zero Waste Week will focus on litter and promote how easy it is to "do the right thing".

"The week provides an ideal opportunity for everybody to focus on how they can make a difference," Mr Webb said.

Nambrok Denison Primary School students and staff will be presented with a special school sign and certificate during Zero Waste Week.

Mr Webb and GRWMG representatives will present the awards to the school for their participation in the Waste Wise School Program, a State Government and Regional Waste Management Group awards program, recognising schools for their excellence in waste minimisation and education.

During the week, Wellington Shire Council and drumMUSTER are also providing a free chemical drum collection throughout the municipality.

The community is invited to visit the Wellington Shire’s Port of Sale reception area, where photos, posters and products made of the recycled drums, will be on display.

The Litter Advertising and Education Campaign accompanying the Commonwealth Games will be launched during this week, with TV commercials, posters, and advertisements. The launch will be held at the Traralgon Basketball Stadium.
