Traralgon flood recovery pop-up support for Latrobe City Council
Adjusting to life in the wake of disaster will be the subject of a free pop-up flood recovery session in Traralgon this month.
Clinical Psychologist David Younger will host 'Understanding the Emotional Effects of a Severe Weather Event' to assist local residents come to terms with the ongoing fallout of the June Flood and Storm Event. The session will focus on tips and pointers to support recovery, addressing the community's lingering feelings of worry, concern, fatigue and stress as they rebuild their lives and homes.
The community is encouraged to attend the session that would supplement the personal recovery
Discussing common experiences
Dr Younger will discuss common experiences and emotional responses to major storm events and strategies to deal with residual trauma. He will also take questions from the audience and facilitate a general discussion.
The event will be held from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday 9 December at the Traralgon Recreation Reserve with a complementary barbecue. This will be a COVIDSafe event and proof of vaccination is required.
Provide opportunities
Latrobe City Mayor Kellie O'Callaghan said, "These events have a long-lasting impact on community members as they recover and rebuild in the wake of disaster. We know many across Latrobe City are continuing to deal with ongoing emotional distress and we want to provide opportunities for anyone experiencing difficulty to receive assistance and support.
"I would encourage anyone who was affected by the June Storm and Flood event to consider attending this session to supplement their recovery efforts at a personal level." Mayor Kellie O'Callaghan said
