Council’s Acting Infrastructure Director, Felicity Sist, said this was the perfect opportunity to prepare for the upcoming fire season.

"The State Government and CFA have warned Victorians about this year’s fire danger period," said Ms Sist.

"We’re encouraging all Bass Coast residents and property owners to take advantage of our green waste amnesty period and clean up their properties.

"This can reduce the fire risk to your property as well as your neighbours.

"Materials that can’t be mulched such as palm fronds or weed species will, as usual, be classed as general waste and will not be free of charge.

"For more information you can pick up a copy of The Common Weeds of Gippsland at Council Customer Service Centres or access it online.

"If you plan on removing vegetation under the new 10/30 right, we encourage you to contact the CFA or the Bushfire Information Hotline before embarking on any major works," continued Ms Sist.

People who require assistance transporting green waste should contact a private contractor.
