Students in years three to six from schools across Gippsland Water’s service area are being asked to participate in a competition to design a new image to be placed on its promotional water bottles. The theme for the image is "Water for Life" and students are asked to convey the message "How do I save water?" The winner of the competition will have their design printed on bottles along with prizes available to both the winning student and school.

The water bottles are distributed to various community groups and events across Gippsland Water’s service area.

Gippsland Water CEO, John Mitchell said "The water for life theme highlights the need for everyone in the community to take an active role in protecting and conserving water resources. As a community we need to actively manage our water resources today, to ensure we have a sustainable water supply for future generations.

"Gippsland water is proud of its work in partnership with school communities to promote healthy lifestyles and responsible use of water."

Launching the competition, Mr Weaver spoke to the students of Newborough East Primary School about water conservation and the importance of water in maintaining healthy and active lifestyles. Mr Harvey and Mr Canovan then continued the day’s activities, conducting a series of basketball clinics throughout the day.

Newborough East Primary School Teacher, Tina Versteden, said the students had shown enthusiastic commitment to water conservation and had been actively participating in a series of water conservation projects.

"All classes have been learning about how to save water and the students have been involved in a number of activities. We have had groups collecting the water run off from the drinking taps and using it to water the garden beds, and students have also been monitoring their own water use.

"The objective is to teach students to be wise with water and show how we can all save water at home."

Gippsland Water encourages all schools to engage with "Water for life" just as Newborough East Primary School has.

The competition closes on Friday 18 November. For further information telephone Gippsland Water’s Customer Service Centre on 1800 066 401.
