Council To Defer Marina And Jetty Fee Increases

Following consultation between East Gippsland Councillors and Shire management, proposed movements in marina and private canal jetty fees are to be deferred to allow further stakeholder consultations.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 13th June 2006 - Back to News

CEO Steve Kozlowski said the cases made by representatives of both groups and the Draft Budget public hearings last week had highlighted matters that need to be addressed before it is appropriate to increase them.

"We have therefore agreed that the setting of new fees be deleted from the budget and deferred until the November Council Meeting."

Slip Bight Marina Berth Holder's Alliance President Geoff Easdown welcomed news that the fees would not move pending further consultation.

"We are pleased the Shire has recognised the need to work with stakeholders before rises of the magnitude proposed can be implemented," he said.

"We will look forward to working together to reach a satisfactory

understanding on this and other related issues to help promote East

Gippsland tourism and our wonderful Lakes as the nation's premier boating centre."

Spokesman for Paynesville’s Riviera Canal private jetty owners Ian Pearson also welcomed new of the planned deferment of fee increases.

"The recommendation has followed meaningful discussions and canal jetty owners look forward to working to achieve a mutually satisfactory resolution."
