Council continues to pursue Nylex expansion

Wellington Shire Council is disappointed with the news that Nylex will not be proceeding with a new plant in Sale at this stage, though it welcomes the company’s commitment to keep the present facility open and in operation.

By Wellington Shire Council - 22nd September 2004 - Back to News

Over the past months the council has pulled out all the stops to assist Nylex in coming to a decision to expand its operation in Sale as opposed to transferring overseas to China.

It has been campaigning hard on behalf of the local community on all fronts and has been actively lobbying the Victorian and Federal Governments with very welcome help from the Federal Member for Gippsland Peter McGauran and State Member for Gippsland South Peter Ryan.

Both politicians have provided invaluable contact with the two tiers of Government – facilitating top level meetings for example - and the response from the Governments has been very positive.

Said Wellington’s Chief Executive Officer Lyndon Webb: "While we are somewhat disappointed by Nylex’s announcement, their decision to continue the Sale operation is reassuring and takes on board the high quality of staff at the plant and their excellent productivity.

"Needless to say Wellington Shire Council will continue to campaign hard on behalf for expansion of the company’s operation here.

"Our recent lobbying efforts in other areas have scored some notable successes for the shire including confirmation of the expansion of RAAF East Sale from both the Federal Government and Opposition, multi-million-dollar funding for the Rosedale Multi-Purpose Centre from the Federal and Victorian Governments and support for the proposed Rosedale aged care facility.

"Building on this we are very keen to promote good industrial development in this area and will continue to work with Nylex to bring about an expansion in Sale, which will benefit both the company and Wellington economy."
