The focus was on progressing major construction projects, continuing service delivery and the adoption of a number of Council Plans.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan said that several major projects either commenced or were well progressed during the year.

"The pavilion upgrade at the Ted Summerton Reserve in Moe and the Latrobe Leisure Churchill upgrade should be complete by the end of September. The Callignee Community Centre should be finished by the end of the year and will give the community a large multipurpose hall, cricket pavilion and CFA building," Cr O’Callaghan said.

"The Traralgon Early Learning Centre opened during the 2009/10 financial year and with the Traralgon Activity Centre Plan stage one completed and adopted, the future plans for stage two of the project can get underway.

"There are numerous other building projects and event highlights detailed in the Annual Report that give an indication of the diverse activities that Latrobe City Council undertakes. Our strong financial position ensures that we can continue to provide services and maintain and construct infrastructure to improve the liveability and amenity of Latrobe City," Cr O’Callaghan explained.

Latrobe City’s chief executive officer, Paul Buckley, said that the Annual Report was a measure of service delivery, finance, capital works progress and formalising of plans and policies.

"During the 2009/10 year, Council adopted the Northern Towns Outdoor Recreation Plan, the Building Asset Management Plan, the Cultural and Linguistic Diversity Action Plan and Latrobe 2026: The Community Vision for Latrobe Valley as well as many other plans.

"The Annual Report also contains a range of service delivery statistics such as the fact that 24,000 enquiries were received by the Visitor Information Centre; 90,500 square metres of garden beds were maintained; 1576 enrolments for Learn to Swim programs were received; 433 planning permits were issued and 109 bushfire rebuilding projects were overseen.

"I would encourage the community to view the Annual Report 2009/10 to see for themselves the wide range of services and programs that are being delivered by Latrobe City Council," Mr Buckley concluded.

As part of Council’s commitment to environmental best practice, a minimum number of copies of this years report have been printed. Copies of the report are available on the Latrobe City Council Website www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/about/publications
