Council Adopts 2013/14 BudgetBass Coast Shire Council adopted its 2013/14 Budget at a special meeting held on Wednesday, 31 July. By Bass Coast - 6th August 2013 - Back to News Having been on public exhibition for a month, Council’s Corporate Services Director, Danny Luna, said Council had received two submissions on the budget from the community.
"The submissions were heard by Council last week, but neither of the two really suggested any major changes to the budget," Mr Luna said.
"One suggested some very minor wording changes, which we have already done, but there is no need to make any formal changes to the budget."
Following Council’s moratorium on Footpath Trading Permit fees recently, the proposed fees were deleted from the budget and will be addressed at a later stage.
"Council wishes to review those fees, therefore they have been separated out of the budget," Mr Luna said.
Cr Neil Rankine moved the motion to adopt the budget and was seconded by Cr Kimberley Brown.
Cr Brad Drew commented the budget was "great work done by all".
"Obviously one of the things I stood for at Council was making sure we could cap our rates at a reasonable level; since then, I’ve learned a lot, seen a lot and developed. I think 5.9 (per cent increase in rates) is a good result. We have four years and the objective is to still work towards that initial goal of capping rates, sooner rather than later." Cr Drew said.
"My goal is to make sure we keep moving forward and keep presenting good, reliable budgets for our community in the future."
The total expenditure of the budget is $69 million and includes over $500,000 of new initiatives as well as almost $15 million of capital works.
