Gippslanders Encouraged To Have Their SayGippsland residents have been invited to participate in a regional survey to help inform a review and revision of the Gippsland Regional Plan. By Bass Coast - 8th April 2014 - Back to News The plan – launched in 2010 as a partnership initiative between the Gippsland Local Government Network, Regional Development Australia Gippsland and the Regional Managers Forum, and now supported by Committee for Gippsland – identifies 11 priority areas of focus, each responding to major opportunities and challenges facing the region.
Gippsland Regional Plan Leadership Group chair, Steve Kozlowski said the time is right to review the plan.
"A number of significant changes have occurred both within and outside of the region since the plan was released including the election of new state and federal governments, new municipal Councils and major technological advancements," Mr Kozlowski said.
"Four years on, it’s prudent we take stock of these changes, consider the implications and adjust our strategy to reflect the contemporary environment."
Mr Kozlowski said the survey covers a broad range of issues including health and community wellbeing, natural resource management and economic development.
"It aims to gauge community sentiment across each of these fundamental areas and will help to ensure that the views and aspirations of the greater Gippsland community are appropriately considered in a new iteration of the plan," Mr Kozlowski said.
Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor, Cr Neil Rankine encouraged Bass Coast residents to have their say by responding to the survey.
"The regional plan has been, and will continue to be an important point of reference in helping to guide major funding decisions and policy direction, so it’s important our community’s views and needs are appropriately represented" Cr Rankine said.
"It also provides an opportunity for Bass Coast Shire Council to work collaboratively with the other five Gippsland Councils, federal and state governments and the private sector to develop major regional initiatives which will have positive flow-on effects for the Bass Coast community.
"It's largely about the collective needs of the greater Gippsland region - what can happen elsewhere that would also benefit us, but importantly we have to think what benefits Gippsland as a whole might get from new activity or infrastructure in the Bass Coast Shire."
The survey is open until 5.00pm on Thursday, 24 April and can be accessed from www.gippslandregionalplan.com.au.
