Latrobe City welcomes new community members and regional migration
Latrobe City Council is proud to have contributed to discussions surrounding regional migration last week and the innovation and entrepreneurship they often inspire.
Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan joined leaders from across Gippsland and keynote speaker Victorian Multicultural Commission's Chairperson Vivienne Nguyen AM in the discussions. The event was an opportunity to have local community members, government, industry and academia all in the one room, participating in strength-based conversations.

Increase of new residents
Regional migration is a crucial aspect of economic and community development. It will continue to play an important part in communities and businesses across Latrobe City as the local economy continues to transform. According to the 2016 Census data approximately 15,863 of Latrobe City residents were born overseas. With more than 35 languages spoken in the home.
Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan reflected on the session and the role regional migration will have particularly as a further increase of new residents is expected over the coming years.
Support in regional migration
Mayor O'Callaghan said, "As a council, we are proud to welcome new community members to our City, whether that is from countries around the world or parts of Victoria and Australia. We are striving to make sure our services and facilities are welcoming and supportive and create pathways for participation, sharing and connection."
"I would like to thank the Latrobe Valley Authority and Federation University for hosting the event and providing an opportunity for us to understand the key insights and drivers to support regional migration into the future," said the Mayor.
