Resealing Program

Council will be undertaking resealing work throughout the shire in the coming weeks. This is part of periodic maintenance and is a seal over an existing bituminous surface. The reason council undertakes this work is:

By Bass Coast - 23rd April 2013 - Back to News

  • to improve road safety by ensuring the pavement is in good condition;
  • to protect the pavement from traffic and water damage;
  • to provide a low cost, low maintenance wearing surface ;
  • to restore skid resistance; and
  • to extend the service life of a dry or weathered surfacing.

Reseasling is also required when pot holing or stripping of aggregate from the surface is imminent.

Unless a detour or side track is readily available resealing is usually carried out while traffic in one or both directions is stopped, which may cause delays. Consequently it is important to follow instructions provided by traffic controllers.

Roads to be resurfaced this financial year at a cost of over $600,000.00 include:

  • Grossard Point Rd Ventnor
  • Dalyston-Glen Forbes Rd
  • Graham St Wonthaggi from Billson St to Hospital Dve
  • Poplar St Wonthaggi from McKenzie St to Outlook Dve
  • Stewart Rd from The Shuntoff to Gurdies-St Helier Rd
  • Gurdies-St Helier Rd from Bass Hwy to Woodland Cl
  • Kent Rd The Gurdies
  • Island View Rd The Gurdies
  • Loch-Wonthaggi Rd from Grantville-Glen Alvie Rd to Sheepways Rd
  • Glen Alvie Rd from Wade Rd to Kongwak Rd

If you have any concerns please contact Council’s Infrastructure Maintenance Team on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).
