Council Offers Big Animal De-Sexing Discounts For Two Months

Owners of dogs and cats registered with East Gippsland Shire Council are eligible for large discounts for animal de-sexing from today (March 1) until 30 April.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 1st March 2005 - Back to News

Total savings of up to $145 can be achieved if de-sexing and registration occurs during this two-month period.

Council has made arrangements with three veterinary surgeries to perform the procedures that will then entitle the animal to be registered at a discount for the rest of its life.

The vets are:

  • Main St Vet Clinic, 323 Main Street, Bairnsdale;
  • Lakes Entrance Vet Clinic, 9 Princes Highway, Lakes Entrance;
  • Snowy River Vet Clinic32 Salisburn St, Orbost

Council’s Community Laws Manager Heather Jones said owners must book their animals in with one of the nominated vets and on the day of surgery will be given a certificate by the vet.

"The pet is then left at the surgery for the day during which time the owner will need to take the certificate to Council’s local Business or Corporate Centre to pay the discounted registration for the 2005/2006 year," she said.

"The registration receipt is then shown to the vet when they collect their pet, and they will then be charged the reduced rate."

For small female dogs the reduce rate is $95.00, medium $120,00 and large $150.00. De-sexing male dogs of any size will cost just $90.00.

All female cats will be treated for the reduced rate of $60.00 while for male cats the price has been reduced to $20.00.

Ms Jones said these were substantial discounts, particularly for male cats, and were only available during this special promotion period.

"Owners of cats and dogs not registered with council will not be eligible for the discounts," she said.

Ms Jones said this is the first of a number of initiatives the Council is putting in place this year to benefit responsible owners and their animals.

"It is very much a case of animal registration fees being put to work directly for the animals and their owners."
