Latrobe City deputy mayor, Councillor David Wilson said that the workshops were sponsored by Latrobe’s neighbourhood alliance program and the Latrobe Regional Gallery.

"Artist Ian ’Gumby’ Mitchell and members of the Traralgon East Community Group ran the workshops which encouraged young people to free up their creativity and get painting.

"Up to twenty local young people took part in the workshops, with many coming to all sessions. The young artists drew up their ideas in the morning session and then worked together on painting a number of large panels each afternoon," Cr Wilson explained.

Carol Dalton from the Traralgon East Residents Group, was very impressed by the workshops.

"The talent and enthusiasm of the kids is fantastic, and a number of them are very keen to keep painting together on a regular basis. This project is sensational – it’s bringing our community together and providing our kids with an opportunity to develop and display their talent whilst making a unique and personal contribution to their community," Ms Dalton concluded.

The first ten panels will be hung in Priestly Park on Saturday 22 November as part of a community barbecue and celebration day.
