Darren Chester secured $818,000 in LER funding to deliver long-needed upgrades to Mallacoota Hall

Mallacoota Hall has been upgraded with improved accessibility, modern facilities and expanded community spaces, supported by $818,000 in LER funding, boosting its everyday use and strengthening resilience for future emergencies.

The Mallacoota Hall, which became a vital hub for relief and recovery efforts during the Black Summer bushfires, has now been transformed into a more functional, accessible and resilient community facility. Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester helped secure $818,000 from the Local Economic Recovery (LER) program, coordinated by the previous Federal Government, to support the long-planned upgrade after the fires highlighted significant limitations in the ageing building.

Darren Chester says it's great to see the Mallacoota Hall upgrade completed with changes to the entryway, improved accessibility, redeveloped toilets and change rooms, plus an expansion of the kitchen and the creation of additional community and office spaces

Mr Chester said, "The Black Summer bushfires showed us just how important this hall is to Mallacoota, but the facilities struggled to meet demand during the emergency. The community identified upgrading the hall as a top priority, and it’s great to see this project now delivered."

The completed works include a modernised entryway, improved accessibility features, new and upgraded toilets and changerooms, an expanded kitchen, and additional community and office spaces - all designed to support everyday use as well as future emergency and recovery efforts. "These upgrades will help future-proof a valuable local asset. Congratulations to everyone involved for their hard work and commitment to strengthening this important gathering place for Mallacoota," Mr Chester said.
