Can You Help Us Find Latrobe’S Next Senior Citizen Of The Year?
Latrobe City Council is looking for nominations for the Senior Citizen of the Year to be awarded during Seniors Week Festival from 5 October, 2014.
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, said that the award would be presented to a local resident over the age of sixty who demonstrated community spirit.
"We know there are many seniors in our community who go about their daily business without giving a second thought to whether they might qualify for this award. Many volunteer with clubs and community groups and have done for years. They see this as a way of life rather than a sacrifice. But, it is important that we recognise the importance of the role they play in our community. Without the hours they put in and the support they provide to others our society would be all the poorer.
"I’m sure there are those of you in Latrobe City who know someone - relative, a neighbour, a friend who should be nominated for this award. They may care for someone less able than themselves, they may contribute many hours to a local sporting or community group in a volunteer capacity, they may have worked for the good of our community in another way. Whoever they are, we hope you can help us honour their hard work," Cr Gibson said.
"Nominations close this Friday so please don’t put it off any longer. You can collect a nomination pack from your local service centre or phone us on 1300 367 700 to receive one by mail. These awards recognise the unsung heroes amongst us so please let’s find them and sing their praises during Seniors Week," Cr Gibson concluded.
