The Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, has welcomed confirmation that the PS Curlip project has successfully received financial support from the State Government.

The Minister for Victorian Communities, John Thwaites, has announced that the project would receive a $500,000 grant through the Victorian Community Support Grants fund for it’s "A new beginning" project.

"This project will be an extremely positive boost to the local community and has strong local support from all sectors of the community and over 100 volunteers already committed to work to complete the project," Mr Ingram said.

The project includes the construction of the PS Curlip, development of infrastructure at Marlo Port and a Tabarra Interpretive Walk.

"As the grant funding is dependent on the outcome of PS Curlip’s application for additional funding from the Federal Government, I have already had discussions with the Federal Member for Gippsland, the Hon. Peter McGauran, to ensure that the federal funding is provided to ensure success of the PS Curlip project," Mr Ingram said.

A feasibility study in 2004 by Arts Victoria and East Gippsland Shire Council found the PS Curlip could be financially viable with the right marketing campaign and a realistic number of passengers each year.

"I look forward to seeing the PS Curlip plying the waters of the Snowy River in the future," Mr Ingram concluded.
