Council Invites Residents To Play With Park Design

What makes a good park, what draws members of the community to a park and how would a mix of active and passive spaces work?

By Latrobe City Council - 20th August 2009 - Back to News

These are just some of the questions that will be on the agenda at Council’s park design session on the 26 August 2009.

The design session is being held to consider the development of a new park to be built at Bradman Boulevard and Breed Street, Traralgon.

Latrobe City Council, Deputy Mayor, Cr O’Callaghan said that the new park development was an exciting opportunity for local residents to have their say.

"Council will give residents an opportunity to discuss the types of recreational facilities and landscaping treatments that they would like to see in the new park.

"Council has some ideas around the provision of a new sports oval, passive recreation area and playground facilities and would like to hear community feedback on this."

Cr O’Callaghan said that residents can become involved by completing a survey and/or by attending a community design session.

"The design sessions, on Wednesday 26 August 2009, will give members of the community the chance to discuss their ideas, opinions and ask questions regarding the parks development.

"Residents can attend any of the one hour design sessions which are being held at Council’s Traralgon Service Centre, 34 Kay Street Traralgon. Sessions are available between the hours of 1-5pm and 6-9pm.

"Each session will be an hour long discussion and a review of the draft plan.

"Of course attending a design session isn’t the only way in which you can have a say, there is a survey which residents can complete and a draft master plan available for review," said Cr O’Callaghan.

"Copies of the survey can be obtained from either the Traralgon Service Centre or Council’s website at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au."

"Public parks and recreations spaces are a wonderful way for families to spend time together and to encourage a fit and healthy lifestyle.

"I encourage all residents to grasp this opportunity and to have their say."

Residents interested in attending the design session are invited to book by contacting Ian Murphy on (03) 5128 5341 or via email at ianmu@latrobe.vic.gov.au.
