By news@gippsland - 15th May 2025 - Back to News Council endorsed the recommendations of the Tourism and Major Events Advisory Committee to fund the 2025/26 National Basketball League Regular Season Game Two through the annual Major Events Attraction Budget. This game will complement Game One, which has already been approved, creating an exciting festival of basketball in Latrobe City. 
Game Two complements Game One, enhancing Latrobe's basketball festival, strengthening Phoenix partnership, and generating $658,869 through increased tourism and local spending Basketball boosts LatrobeThese games provide the opportunity to amplify council's partnership with South East Melbourne Phoenix and bring more basketball action to Latrobe City. The projected economic impact for the event is $658,869 which is expected from high visitation numbers for accommodation providers and local eateries. Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Dale Harriman, said basketball events are always popular with the local community and often attract sell-out crowds. "We're thrilled to support National Basketball League games here in Latrobe City as part of what's shaping up to be an exciting program of basketball." "Events like this bring our community together, create economic benefits for local businesses, and showcase our region as a destination for major sporting events.
