By Department of Primary Industries - 4th May 2006 - Back to News

The forum, for farmers and those working with farmers on environmental issues, will show case how the grazing and dairy industries, Landcare and government are working together to improve the natural resources in the Gippsland region. Chaired by Bruce Standfield, a Fish Creek dairy farmer with many years involvement in the Landcare network and Bill Bray, a Walkerville beef and lamb producer, current president of the Cattle Council of Australia.

Highlights will include:

· Beef, sheep and dairy farmers sharing their experiences.

· Todd Harper, Director of the QUIT program talking about how the QUIT campaign has successfully changed public behaviour and perceptions of smoking. Are there lessons for us with changing perceptions about the health of our land?

· Ken Garner from Bega Cheese, with an insight into a unique example from the dairy industry around Bega in New South Wales and how they are working with farmers to achieve better environmental outcomes.

The forum will give participants a greater understanding of what environmental management programs are currently being offered to Gippsland farmers, as well as plenty of time to chat with other farmers and service providers on the achievements to date and how to get involved.

To book your place, call Joan Wallis, EMS Pathways Officer at DPI Leongatha on 5662 9900.
