Bass Coast, Baw Baw, East Gippsland, Latrobe City, South Gippsland and Wellington councils joined forces and outlined their commitment to developing and supporting innovation.

Bass Coast Shire’s Special Events Coordinator, Frank Angarane, represented Council at the signing.

"The really positive thing about this is that it’s a joint effort," said Mr Angarane.

"With a total regional commitment, we will work together to bring real benefits to the Gippsland community."

Mr Angarane believes that the signing of the Innovation Statement signalled the start of a new era of cooperation between the Councils.

"The Gippsland Innovation Festival has the potential to become a landmark event for the region," said Mr Angarane.

By signing The Gippsland Innovation Statement, the Councils have committed to:

  • Helping people to become better leaders and encourage entrepreneurship;
  • Recognising the importance of innovation in sustainable economic, environmental and community development;
  • Fostering innovation in communities, schools and businesses; and
  • Uniting as a region to celebrate innovation through the Gippsland Innovation Festival.
