Regional Safety Website Launched In Gippsland

Gippsland businesses can now benefit from a web-based regional safety resource with the launch of safety.gippsland.com.

By East Gippsland Occupational Health & Safety Network - 3rd November 2004 - Back to News

The website, which is an initiative of the East Gippsland Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Network, in conjunction with the Gippsland OHS Network and the Safety Institute of Australia, was launched by Mr Ian Maxfield, MP, Member for Narracan at a function at Green Inc on 28 October that was timed to coincide with Work Safe Week 2004. Professor Brian Mackenzie, Pro Vice Chancellor of Monash University Gippsland Campus and Chair of Green Inc; Mr Glen Waterhouse, CEO of Green Inc; Mr Geoff Dell, President of the Safety Institute of Australia Victoria Division; Cr Jeff Amos, Mayor of Wellington Shire; and representatives from the Gippsland safety community also attended the launch.

safety.gippsland.com is a mini portal within Gippsland.com that focuses on the occupational health and safety needs of Gippsland businesses. It aims to combine and showcase the providers of Gippsland safety-related products and services on one website that will be widely publicised and marketed within the region – a one-stop safety shop for Gippsland.

The site profiles and provides information on the two regional safety networks and their activities; provides useful links to safety web-based resources (including WorkSafe Victoria); and also provides a directory of safety related businesses either located in, or servicing Gippsland. Nine businesses are currently listed in the business directory, with more to follow as awareness of the site increases.

Unlike many other regional safety networks, membership of the two Gippsland Networks is free, as is admission to all events. Both networks conduct three seminars per year, including a major event during Work Safe Week. The two networks have over 430 registered members, who represent over 250 government and private organisations of all sizes.
