New program set to assist small-town business

Wellington Shire Council’s small-town businesses will benefit from development and growth opportunities as part of the shire’s latest business development initiative - the Satellite Centres’ Revitalisation project.

By Wellington Shire Council - 16th September 2004 - Back to News

The initiative aims to boost the productivity of local retail sectors in Wellington towns including Stratford, Maffra, Heyfield and Rosedale through structured training programs, greater event management and promotion, specific action plans and the strengthening of individual associations and business networks.

The council will be appointing a part-time project manager to develop and roll-out its initiative, with the financial support of the State Government’s StreetLife Program, and this is being advertised in the local press.

Said Wellington’s Chief Executive Officer Lyndon Webb: "The shire’s smaller towns are a vital component of our local economy, in terms of maintaining employment opportunities and healthy, local retail communities. This project will seek to give the local traders hands-on assistance in their efforts to maintain and grow their businesses, while encouraging co-operation between local enterprises in what we call our ‘Satellite Centre’."

More information is available on the initiative and the post advertised by telephoning Wellington’s Manager of Economic Development, Tim Wills on 1300 366 244.
