Community Groups Invited To Apply For Council Grants

The 2012/13 Community Grants Program will be open for application from Monday 4 June 2012 for community groups across Latrobe City to apply for funding assistance.

Grants are being made available to not for profit Latrobe City groups and organisations for projects being undertaken during the 2012/13 financial year. The Community Grants Program Guidelines and Information booklet is available on Council’s website which details the criteria and eligibility for a successful grant application.

In announcing the community grants program for 2012/2013, Latrobe City mayor, Cr Ed Vermeulen, said the grants provide great opportunities for numerous groups in the community to benefit.

"These council grants encourage community groups to enhance their facilities or the services they provide to the community. Whether it’s a growing sporting group seeking to expand premises or upgrade equipment, a group wishing to develop a service program or a group wanting to share an event with the community, the community grants program can help them achieve their dreams," Cr Vermeulen said.

Cr Vermeulen added that over a number of years, funding in each category had resulted in many useful, community-based projects being developed.

"There are many fine examples of community groups working hard to create infrastructure improvements, organising events, both major and minor, as well as providing valuable community development programs within our municipality.

"In addition to receiving financial help through the community grants program, community groups are required to contribute to these projects by way of providing some of their own funding, as well as contributions made ‘in kind’, such as providing labour. In 2011/12 Latrobe City Council’s contribution of $360,000 towards the Minor Capital Works grants resulted in a combined amount of $743,000 having been spent on projects throughout the city. The total grant pool is $435,000 with $360,000 allocated to Minor Capital Works grants, $30,000 allocated to Community Development grants, $25,000 allocated to Event grants and $20,000 allocated to Community Venue Hire grants. It is a great way for the community to work together to achieve a common goal," Cr Vermeulen added.

"An extensive campaign to promote the program is currently being carried out so that as many groups as possible can take advantage of these funding opportunities. If you belong to a community group or organisation within Latrobe City, and you have a project that needs funding, then this program may be a way for you to receive help and make a start on that project," Cr Vermeulen concluded.

Applicants are encouraged to complete and submit their applications via Latrobe City Council’s online e-tendering portal. Instructions are available on Council’s website, detailing how to register and submit an application online. Assistance is available to groups that do not have access to the internet. Hard copy application forms are also available for collection from council’s service centres in Moe, Morwell, Churchill and Traralgon.

The deadline for receiving applications is 5pm on Friday, 27 July 2012.
