Feedback On Masterplan For Moe Rail Precinct Invited

Latrobe City Council is inviting feedback on the draft masterplan prepared for the Moe Rail Precinct Revitalisation Project, following a resolution by council at its Monday meeting.

By Latrobe City Council - 22nd September 2009 - Back to News

The release of the draft masterplan for feedback will be augmented by information briefings for the community to be held at the Moe Town Hall on Tuesday 29 September at 2pm and Tuesday 6 October at 7pm.

At the information briefings, the project consultants, SJB Urban, will present the draft masterplan including details on the analysis they undertook in reaching their recommendations.

The Moe Rail Precinct Revitalisation Project encompasses the area between the Anzac Street and Saviges Road roundabouts, and the Moore Street shared zone to the Albert Street roundabout.

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Lisa Price, said the release of the draft masterplan provides the community with an opportunity to gain a better insight into what is being proposed.

"The masterplan illustrates how public space can be utilised, what components will be incorporated into the project and provides artist’s impressions of streetscapes, civic buildings, open space and community facilities.

"This is another step along the way to delivering an exciting and refreshing project to enhance the Moe central business district through attractive and functional development north and south of the railway line," Cr Price said.

The masterplan identifies and expands upon a number of themes with the precinct remaining a transport hub critically linked to a bus interchange and taxi services with ease of access for transport users. Additional car parking has been incorporated into the design.

The Moe Rail Precinct will also become a hub of services and public amenities such as community meeting rooms and council service centre. The civic building also houses the new library, a facility much larger than its current counterpart.

While there is an overall emphasis on passive recreation, lifestyle and socialising, the masterplan indentifies a redeveloped skate park closer to the centre of the precinct, providing activity for young people; while also emphasising a sense of safety established through good design.

Cr Price said the masterplan has been developed following extensive public consultation facilitated through workshops and culminating in the Moe Ideas Shop which opened to facilitate comment earlier this year.

"A very important aspect of the Moe Rail Precinct Revitalisation Project is the strong input and involvement by the community in identifying its goals and aspirations, which are now a step closer to being delivered in bricks and mortar, leafy public spaces, additional car parking and exciting facilities," Cr Price said.

"Once again it’s the community’s turn to get involved in seeing this project closer to delivery by providing feedback and comment," Cr Price added.

Copies of the draft masterplan will be on display in all council service centres, leisure centres, libraries and the VLine Station (Moe). In addition, both the masterplan and a copy of the full report will be made available on the Latrobe City website to download. A hard copy of the report will also be available if required and this can be obtained from any of the service centres or by contacting Kaye McLaren by email KayeMc@latrobe.vic.gov.au or telephone on 5128 5305.

Comment should be in writing and forwarded to Hiren Bhatt, Latrobe City Council, PO Box 264 Morwell 3840; or email hirenbh@latrobe.vic.gov.au by 5pm Wednesday 4 November 2009.

Feedback and comment received on the masterplan will be considered in a further report to council.

To attend one of the information briefings for the community, please RSVP Kaye McLaren by email KayeMc@latrobe.vic.gov.au or telephone on 5128 5305.
