West Gippsland Arts Centre season launch goes online
Performance packed launching of West Gippsland Arts Centre.
In response to the latest COVID-19 restrictions, West Gippsland Arts Centre’s July to December program was launched online on Wednesday night. A celebratory members night at the Arts Centre was originally planned, so rather than cancelling the event, the Arts Centre team quickly developed a video hosted by Manager of Arts, Culture and Events Rob Robson.
The West Gippsland Arts Centre team worked through a revised Covid Safe plan and liaising with the touring and local artists to launch the July to December program
The video featured highlights of each of the upcoming shows and was accompanied by a live chat for members to ask questions and chat with each other. The season launch follows a successful start to 2021 for the Arts Centre, with high attendance figures despite COVID-19 capacity restrictions.
Program features
The July to December program features a diversity of performances, including (but not limited to):
- Love Song Dedications (without Richard Mercer) - Tuesday 6 July
- Vivaldi’s Four Seasons performed by Melbourne Chamber Orchestra – Friday 23 July
- A Midsummer Night's Dream - Tuesday 24 August
- Animal Farm - Tuesday 31 August
- Ochres performed by Bangarra Dance Theatre, Wednesday 8 October
Following the Victoria Government’s announcement regarding changes to COVID-19 restrictions in regional Victoria, the Arts Centre team is working through a revised Covid Safe plan and liaising with the touring and local artists. Any patrons who have tickets booked for shows for the period affected by the announcement, will be contacted by the Booking Office team with details about those performances.
Keeping community informed
Mayor Cr Danny Goss said, "To be able to shift the season launch online in such a short space of time while rescheduling shows and ensuring patrons were kept informed is a credit to the Arts Centre team. We hope our community and visitors to the region will enjoy the range of performances available throughout the remainder of the year and we thank them for their understanding while we put plans in place to reopen the venue."
Finding innovative ways
Manager Arts, Culture and Events Rob Robson said, "If we have learned anything in the last 12 months, it is how to pivot! Switching the launch to an on-line presentation ensured we were able to maintain our primary focus on our community and our audience. We look forward to finding innovative ways to bring all sorts of live entertainment to our stage as we continue to move forward."
