The Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) has announced around $500,000 in new funding to support sports clubs in Eastern Victoria to create new opportunities to get less active Victorians playing sport and improve their health.

VicHealth’s Active Club Grants, which open today, provide funding of up to $3,000 or up to $10,000 to community sport clubs to create more opportunities for women and girls and ‘social’ or modified sport options.

Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Harriet Shing encourages local clubs to apply for the funding which can support new teams as well as cover the cost of uniforms, coaching staff and equipment so that more Eastern Victorian residents become more active and improve their health.

VicHealth CEO Dr Sandro Demaio said Active Club Grants have supported hundreds of clubs across Victoria to get more people in their community moving in new ways.

"Our latest round of Active Club Grants will support more local sport clubs in Eastern Victoria to provide further opportunities for the community to improve their health and wellbeing by becoming more active," Dr Demaio said.

"We’re putting the call out for a variety of sporting clubs and associations who are offering opportunities for women and girls, as well as a wide variety of people from different backgrounds, who want to be active and live healthy lives.

"These grants will help more of the community in Eastern Victoria get involved with social and modified activities where age, ability, background, lifestyle or gender isn’t a barrier."

Clubs applying for Active Club Grants funding can indicate if they would like to be considered for an additional $2,000 grant to promote This Girl Can – Victoria to encourage women in their local community to get active.

It’s easy to apply! Clubs are encouraged to apply for the funding grants through the VicHealth website before 4pm on 24 February 2020. For further information or to apply online, visit https://www.vichealth.vic.gov.au/funding/active-club-grants.
