The Forum will be held on Thursday, 6 October from 10.00am to 11.30am at the old Wonthaggi Post Office, located at the corner of Watt Street and McBride Avenue. Morning tea and a child-minding service are provided. Attendees will also learn about the Women Leading Locally Fellowship Program. This Program aims to increase the representation of women councillors and mayors in Victoria, with a focus on campaigning as a candidate for the 2024 local government elections. Opportunity for women
Bass Coast Shire Deputy Mayor, Cr Leticia Laing, said women are generally under-represented in all levels of government and local government is no exception.
"This forum is about providing an opportunity for women who are curious about council as a way to contribute and explore their leadership skills. Women by and large are incredible leaders and offer so much in our community. This is a chance to learn about the council as a way to contribute from women who have already been there." she said.
"It will be a space to ask us a range of questions. Even if you've never thought about running for council and just want to know what it's like, this forum is for you." Ms Laing said.
