Gippsland Water To Remove All Overhead Token Standpipes

Gippsland Water has advised its customers and water cartage contractors that it will be removing all overhead token standpipes from across its service area and will replace them with designated fireplugs.

By Gippsland Water - 6th September 2007 - Back to News

Overhead token standpipes are public water outlets where individuals use a token system to fill up their tanks.

Overhead token standpipes have previously been installed in certain locations by Gippsland Water to enable customers and water cartage contractors to purchase water in Morwell, Heyfield, Maffra, Sale, Stratford, and Warragul.

Overhead token standpipes are being removed due to potential water quality issues associated with hoses and transport containers, compliance requirements, and occupational health and safety risk issues associated with accessing standpipes from tankers and water transport vehicles.

Only Gippsland Water metered hydrant permit holders will now be able to access these designated fireplugs to collect and transport water in the region.

All overhead token standpipes will be removed and replaced with designated fireplugs by the end of October 2007.

Customers who would like more information can contact the Gippsland Water Service Centre on FREECALL 1800 066 401.
