Holiday Home Registration Update

Bass Coast Shire Council has had a strong response to the new program of holiday home registration. To date, over 500 holiday homes have been registered.

Community and Economic Development Director, Steven Piasente, said that this number was expected to grow, as registrations continue to be received by Council.

"A full report of holiday home registrations will be provided at the Council meeting in May," said Mr Piasente.

"I would urge any owner of an unregistered rental holiday house able accommodate six or more to register quickly."

Registered holiday homes bring benefits to the holiday home owner, holiday makers and neighbours.

"Council expects that registered holiday homes will become the preferred accommodation option for visitors to Bass Coast," said Mr Piasente.

"There is peace of mind for the potential renter of the property, knowing the holiday home meets the required standard, with appropriate management of rubbish and nuisance issues, such as excessive noise and unruly parties. This also means that overcrowding problems, that have had such an impact on local residents in past years, will be more easily managed in the future," said Mr Piasente.

Owners who fail to register their property risk being fined.

"Fines can range from around $480 for individual owners through to $1,200 for corporations, so we are urging holiday home owners to talk to our Environmental Health team. Our staff are able to provide additional information and assistance if you are having any difficulty understanding the registration process or are unsure whether regulations apply to your property."

The rental holiday house information pack and a frequently asked questions information sheet is available on Council website at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au, or by contacting the Environmental Health team on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).
