Coastal Urban Design Framework Strategy

Wellington Shire Council is set to commence its Coastal Urban Design Framework strategy which will provide a coordinated planning and design guidance for coastal settlements throughout the shire.

By Wellington Shire Council - 17th November 2004 - Back to News

The framework is a joint initiative of Wellington and East Gippsland Shire Councils who have appointed consulting firm, Meinhardt Infrastructure & Environment to develop the strategy which will take in popular Wellington coastal towns; Loch Sport, Golden Beach, Paradise Beach, The Honeysuckles, Seaspray, Woodside Beach, McLoughlins Beach, Manns Beach and Robertsons Beach.

Work will commence in mid-November and consultation will be rolled-out in the coming year, to involve principal stakeholders including permanent residents, commercial interests, residents of the surrounding area, absentee land owners, primary users, visitors, community groups and government agencies.

A program for consultation will be formulated with the consultants and a project steering group comprised of representatives from the Department of Sustainability and Environment, the Coastal Board and the community.

An analysis will be completed for each township with input from the local community on key issues and visions for their towns. The findings will then be developed into strategies which will be implemented.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Jeff Amos: "This coastal design framework will set a real precedent with the council’s approach to planning and policy development, assisting with all future coastal development along Wellington’s coastline. With such a comprehensive program of community consultation we are confident that this strategy will have outcomes suitable for each of the groups involved."
