Satisfaction Survey Best Result Ever For Council

Latrobe City has recorded its highest score ever in the annual Community Satisfaction Survey undertaken by Local Government Victoria in 77 of the 79 municipal areas across Victoria.

By Latrobe Shire Council - 6th June 2007 - Back to News

The survey was conducted by phone earlier this year among 350 citizens in each participating municipality by the independent market research consultancy, Wallis Consulting Group.

Latrobe City’s chief executive officer, Paul Buckley, said this year marks the tenth year that Local Government Victoria has been conducting the annual Community Satisfaction Survey. "In terms of overall performance, on the basis of being rated adequate, good or excellent, Latrobe City has moved positively 13 percentage points over those ten years," Mr Buckley explained.

From a positive overall performance rating of 68 per cent in 1998, council’s overall performance rating has risen to 81 per cent in 2007.

Mr Buckley said that through the annual satisfaction survey each council is able to gauge the perception that the community has in respect of the many activities that are undertaken by local government.

"This year’s results are very positive and indicate that Latrobe City has improved across the board with the exception of waste management, traffic management and parking. In these areas the report indicates that the results are not significantly different from the previous year.

"Areas of council’s operations that have significantly improved are the overall performance of council which was up 4 percentage points and the appearance of public places which was up 5 percentage points. In comparison to other regional councils and all councils across Victoria Latrobe City rates higher in traffic management and parking, and town planning policy approvals."

Mr Buckley said that whilst the 2007 Customer Satisfaction Survey is the best result ever achieved by Latrobe City, there is no room for complacency. "Over the coming weeks the Executive Team will be undertaking a review of the results of this year’s survey to develop strategies to ensure that we are able to continue our journey of improvement," Mr Buckley said.

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Tony Zimora, said the survey results revealed that 88 per cent of Latrobe City residents believe the performance of council has improved or stayed the same in the past twelve months. "With initiatives being undertaken through this year’s budget such as the Seymour Street car park, reintroduction of a hard waste service, construction of the AAA playground in Moe and revitalisation of the CBD, sporting upgrades across the municipality and development of the Churchill Community Hub; there are positive indicators that residents will increasingly see their local government as delivering to the community," Cr Zimora said.
