Mr Harrison said the visit to Gippsland had provided him with the opportunity to hear landholders views about the wild dog problem first hand.

"It was a great opportunity to hear peoples’ observations regarding the wild dog problem and to get an insight into the unique geography of the region," Mr Harrison said.

"I was also able to outline the Department’s broader pest management framework which encourages an integrated approach to pest animals and ensures effective pest management by land managers both public and private.

"Our primary goal is to minimise the impact of wild dogs on domestic livestock enterprises and community values in Gippsland.

"I visited properties in Swifts Creek, Omeo, Benambra, Wulgulmerang, Black Mountain, Bendoc and Dellicknora where I was able to view the progression of bushfire recovery fencing, Land Protection Incentive Scheme fences, wild dog bait stations and wild dog capture device sites.

Chair of the Gippsland Wild Dog Management Group, Judith Henderson said, "I welcome Brett’s visit to Gippsland, as it is a great opportunity for him to see the wild dog program first hand and to see how the flexible working arrangements of the fire recovery doggers is reducing the risk of wild dogs moving from public to private land."
