Ingram Congratulates Victorian Parliament On Historic Sitting

The Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, has thanked the Victorian Parliament for conducting an historic regional sitting in Gippsland this week,.

Members of the Legislative Assembly gathered at Churchill and members of the Legislative Council gathered at Lakes Entrance on Wednesday and Thursday, presenting local residents with the opportunity to experience Parliament in action.

"The regional parliamentary sittings gave a real opportunity for the Parliament to focus on Gippsland issues and there was much debate from all sides of politics on important regional problems and projects," Mr Ingram said.

"During the Legislative Assembly question time, I raised the importance of the sand management project at Lakes Entrance and later that day the replacement of the ageing April Hamer.

"I also raised several other matters of concern such as the lack of funding for flood recovery and river restoration in the Macalister Valley; the cost and barriers to tertiary education for rural students; and the importance of deep water aquifers for the agriculture industry and the risks involved in carbon capture and sequestration.

"While regional sittings of Parliament are slightly more stage-managed, this is very similar to a normal day in Parliament.

"For many MP’s the focus on Gippsland was a novelty, but as an independent MP raising Gippsland issues and fighting for my electorate is my main focus each day that Parliament sits, regardless of its location.

"I congratulate all of the Parliamentary staff; Monash University; and East Gippsland and Latrobe shire councils for the exceptional job at bringing this historic sitting to fruition and providing the opportunity to showcase this magnificent region to all members of the Victorian Parliament," Mr Ingram concluded.
