Fires In Gippsland

DSE and Parks Victoria firefighters are still working on four remote fires in far East Gippsland.

By Department of Sustainability and Environment - 21st November 2007 - Back to News

All other fires in the region have been brought under control or are contained at less than four hectares.

The fires at North Buldah and Black Jack Gully, close to the New South Wales border are still small and are being attacked by aircraft and rappel crews from Ovens and Heyfield.

There is no running edge on either of these fires and crews are hopeful of containment later today.

At Mealing Hill, five kilometres west of Wanagarabelle, a ground crew has been dropped in at the Genoa River and will walk in to deal with the fire, which is currently less than one hectare in size.

The Turntables fire, 12 kilometres north-west of Cann River is a single tree strike, with no running edge and a crew of six has been deployed to patrol and black out any burning material.

A new fire has been reported in state forest at Feltis Farm, 20 kilometres north of Orbost.

Crews are concentrating on blacking out and mopping up operations on all other fires and will be patrolling these areas over the next few days as weather conditions heat up.
