National Youth Week 2005 will run from 9-17 April. It is a joint initiative of Federal, Victorian, and Wellington Shire Council and encourages almost 4 million young Australians aged 12-25 to participate in activities and live events.

This year’s Wellington celebrations include a live performance by top Australian punk band Body Jar, the launch of Project wot.tha - a new online initiative which will serve as a communication forum for the shire’s youth - workshops and competitions.

Information sheets and nomination forms are available by telephoning Wellington Shire’s Youth Development Officer, David Roberts on 1300 366 244. Details about National Youth Week are available from the website at www.wellington.vic.gov.au and www.youthweek.com .

Said Wellington’s Mayor Peter Gault: "National Youth Week celebrates the great contribution made by young Australians to their local communities. This year in Wellington we have introduced two new initiatives, which are the creative competition and an awards program. These should go a long way to increasing awareness of the invaluable work done by our younger residents."
