Local people sought for tourism advisory committee

Wellington Shire Council is inviting members of the local community to join a tourism advisory committee to assist with the development of the shire’s next three-year strategic plan guiding its vibrant tourism industry, worth over $80 million a year.

By Wellington Shire Council - 14th February 2005 - Back to News

Following the successful implementation of the 2002-2005 Wellington Tourism Strategy, the council is keen for local input in the development of the 2005-08 plan.

Quality local candidates are being sought from a cross-section of the community including tourism operators, business leaders and residents to provide their advice and feedback.

The council injects approximately $300,000 into the local tourism industry each year and would like the community’s assistance in determining the best way forward for next three-years.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Peter Gault: "The Wellington tourism industry currently employs over 900 people and is an expanding industry. This is of significant importance to our local economy both now and into the long-term future. This council is constantly developing ways to promote the diversity of attractions located in our shire and welcomes the diversity of input that this advisory committee will provide. "
