‘Grow Me Instead’ identifies non-weedy alternatives to common garden escapees, such as Agapanthus and English Ivy.

Ann Kostos from Sustainable Gardening Australia will formally launching the booklet.

"It is aimed at gardeners and plant growers in the Gippsland area" said Annie Lamb, Weed Education Officer at Wellington Shire Council.

"We welcome all residents to come along, pick up a copy of the book and learn a little about what plants are best for their garden"

"Many of our worst weeds have come from the garden, by jumping the back fence and establishing in our waterways and bushland" said Ms Lamb.

"The purpose of this booklet is to identify some of the common garden plants that are known to invade native bushland, and to suggest several non-invasive alternatives for that plant," said Ms Lamb.

Development of the booklet was a combined project of Wellington Shire Council, East Gippsland Shire Council and Latrobe City Council, and supported by the Victorian Government’s Tackling Weeds on Private Land initiative.

Copies of the booklet will be available on the day, and examples of non-invasive garden plants will also be on display.

For catering purposes, please RSVP to Penny Neumann on 1300 366 244 or pennyn@wellington.vic.gov.au
