On Line Development Applications Search System Launched

East Gippsland Shire today launched a ‘real time’ on-line service that enables anyone who has lodged a planning or certification application to check its current status.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 25th June 2007 - Back to News

Called ‘ePathway’ – the system that enables an electronic search of development applications was initially developed to help small home-based businesses.

However because of its simplicity the program now has no access restrictions and is expected to be of assistance to the general community as well as businesses, consulting firms, and other applicants.

Shire Group Manager Community Kate Nelson said the purpose of the program was for the community and consultants to use the program through the Shire’s web site.

"Registers for planning applications, planning application currently being advertised, subdivision certification applications and building permits with a data history from July 2003 are available for viewing," she said.

Ms Nelson said benefits the ePathway system provides include allowing the community or consultants to determine the stage to which an application has progressed.

"It also shows those external referral authorities that may or may not have responded at any given time," she said.

"People will also be able to determine whether Council is waiting on additional information, see if an application is being advertised and identify the planning officer who is dealing with the file.

"The register allows viewing of planning applications currently being advertised as well as all building applications that have been issued and lodged with Council since July 2003."

Ms Nelson said the Shire has been testing this system with our regular applicants over the past few weeks.

"It has provided all the information required by users as well as a high level of satisfaction," she said.

In April the system was previewed at a meeting with 30 local consultant firms.

CEO Steve Kozlowski said the new on-line system would help the Planning Department’s overall productivity.

"Considerable time is lost by staff having to deal with telephone enquiries about the status of an application," he said.

"With people being able to use this on line system, our staff will be able to press on with processing development applications."
