A local competition was held to develop a logo that represented the young people of Bass Coast.

The winning logo was chosen unanimously by the 13 volunteer Council members and was revealed for the first time today.

"For some reason this logo just spoke to all of us," explained Youth Council member, Whitney Budge.

"We all looked at it and said ‘that one’."

The chosen logo was designed by local artist, Rachael Warren, who submitted a number of entries for the competition.

"This logo incorporated the sun and the surf and is almost like a tattoo design," said Ms Warren.

There were also a number of finalists present at the event who were highly commended for their logo entries. These included Joshua Goon, Troy Emery, Glenn Cameron, Colin McKenzie and Simon Dortmans.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Family, Youth and Children’s Services Coordinator, Faye Stewart, said the logo would represent the Youth Council for years to come.

"We implemented the Youth Council to ensure that the views of young people are conveyed to the Council, to provide community awareness on youth issues and to encourage young people to get involved and make a difference for youth in their community.

"This Youth Council will be invaluable to the Bass Coast community," said Ms Stewart.
