SEATS aims to provide a co-ordinated advocacy for the development of transport infrastructure in the South East Australian region, which supports sustainable economic development. Membership of SEATS consists of key local, regional and state government organisations in the South East transport corridor from Wollongong NSW to Dandenong VIC.

Cowes was selected as the meeting site, to highlight key Phillip Island and San Remo transport projects, such as the Bass Highway duplication, the Tourist Road upgrade and the proposed Mornington Peninsular to Phillip Island car ferry.

Approximately 50 people attended the meeting over the two days. Around 30 councils were represented, including delegates from Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales and Canberra.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Neville Goodwin, Cr John Duscher, CEO Allan Bawden and Assets Director Guy Wilson-Browne represented Council at the meeting. Guests included Fergus Cameron, Grand Prix Co-operation and the Hon Ken Smith, State Member for Bass.

"The meeting was a great success," said Guy Wilson-Browne, Assets Director for Bass Coast Shire Council. "The support of SEATS will greatly increase the likelihood of funding for our key transport projects".

Highlights of the two day meeting included:

  • The Phillip Island Tourist Road Management Study – community consultation has been completed
