Community Satisfaction Survey a great result for Latrobe says CEO

The results of the annual Community Satisfaction Survey conducted by the State Government in municipalities across Victoria has been hailed by Latrobe City Council CEO, Richard Hancock, as a great result for the municipality.

By Latrobe City - 7th May 2003 - Back to News

The survey, undertaken by independent market researchers earlier this year, asked a series of questions about nine different areas of Council service delivery. Seventy-eight of the seventy-nine local government councils in Victoria participated in the survey.

Mr Hancock said the results of the survey were very pleasing and showed that the overall level of community satisfaction with Council services had risen over the past twelve months.

"We are particularly pleased that two areas of service delivery have been recognised in the survey as showing a statistically significant increase in satisfaction since the 2002 survey. The appearance of public areas and economic development both showed this increase, and together with health and human services are in fact rating at their highest point since the first surveys were taken in 1998.

"Recreational facilities, waste management, and bylaws were all areas of Council service showed improvement in citizen satisfaction or holding their ground, according to the 350 survey respondents selected at random.

"Citizens were also given the opportunity to comment on specific issues that determined their response. Suggestions such as greater enforcement of animal bylaws and fire prevention orders to clean up property were suggested by a significant proportion of respondents. More parking facilities adjacent to shopping and business centres and better facilities and resources at libraries were also high on the list of issues. This is really wonderful feedback from our community," Mr Hancock added.

"While the results are generally very good, we can never rest on our successes. We must always look at ways of doing things better," Mr Hancock concluded.
