Community Invited To Comment On Aquatic Centre Design

Bass Coast Shire Council is seeking the community’s input on the proposed redevelopment and expansion of the Bass Coast Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

By Bass Coast - 28th October 2014 - Back to News

Concept plans have been completed and will be on display at the Centre from 5 to 28 November, and available online until 1 December.

Community members will also have the opportunity to discuss the plans with the consultants, attend a community information session and provide feedback to Council.

Mayor, Neil Rankine, said the Centre is currently the Shire’s only integrated aquatic and leisure centre and is now operating at capacity.

"Following research and planning undertaken over the past four years, Council resolved to undertake a design process for the redevelopment and expansion of the Centre.

"The concept plans show how the Centre can be expanded to provide increased facilities and spaces to better meet the aquatic, fitness and recreational needs of the Shire’s expanding population."

The Centre currently comprises of an indoor 25m x six lane pool, a toddler’s pool, a fitness gymnasium, an indoor sports court, a crèche, a small meeting room, and administration and amenity areas.

A pavilion for the Wonthaggi Tennis Club adjoins the building.

The plans allow for a new 25m x 10 lane pool, a new combined warm-water and learn-to-swim pool, and a new water play area that is integrated with an indoor-outdoor café.

Other facility improvements and additions include a significantly larger fitness gymnasium with three adjoining health and fitness rooms, a larger crèche with outdoor play area, separate ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ change rooms (including five family change rooms and an accessible toilet/ shower facility with a hoist), and expanded internal circulation and administration areas.

Other features of the concept plan include increased car parking, a patron drop-off and pick-up zone, a new entrance and foyer space, and a combination of permanent and temporary seating in the pool hall to accommodate over 100 people.

Opportunities to view the plans and inspect the proposed design will be held on:
