Traders Without Permits Have no Business in ShireBass Coast Shire Council is warning residents and visitors about itinerant traders operating in the Shire By Bass Coast Shire Council - 15th January 2002 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council is warning residents and visitors about itinerant traders operating in the Shire without appropriate permits.
Itinerant traders are those who operate from mobile premises, such as vehicles parked on the side of the road. These traders must have permits to operate. The permits ensure they conduct their business in a safe and appropriate way.
Cr Miranda Sage, Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council said there have been cases of itinerant traders operating illegally in the Shire over the past month. Council’s local laws officers have issued warnings and fines to these traders.
"Council’s main concern in relation to these traders is public safety," said Cr Sage. "If these itinerant traders operate without a permit there is no guarantee they have public liability insurance or adhere to other safety regulations."
Local laws officers are very concerned about pedestrian safety around the vehicles these traders use.
