Further Boost For Wonthaggi Centennial Centre

Bass Coast Shire Council has successfully secured $300,000 of State Government funding for the Wonthaggi Centennial Centre

By Bass Coast - 25th October 2010 - Back to News

Council’s Economic Development Manager, Peter Francis said this funding was on top of the $1 million plus the Commonwealth Government committed to the project earlier this year.

"We have now secured more than $1.3 million in funding for the project," said Mr Francis.

"We have worked closely with the Rotary Club of Wonthaggi on this project and securing this additional grant means that the contribution from Council and Rotary will be less than $200,000.

"The design for the Wonthaggi Centennial Centre includes a new accredited Visitor Information Centre, and a multi purpose community meeting and exhibition space."

Mr Francis said Council will fund the project management and construction supervision costs associated with the project. Construction of the new Centre is scheduled for 2011.

The new Centre will provide a landmark building as a permanent commemoration of the Centenary of Wonthaggi.

The new Visitor Information Centre and multi purpose facilities will be great new assets for Bass Coast, and will give a real boost to the business and tourism sectors, Mr Francis added.
